Also known as: Repatriation · Medical repat
Returning an ill or injured patient to their home country for further treatment or recovery.
Medical repatriation is the coordinated return of a patient — usually a traveller, expatriate or remote worker — to their country of residence after illness or injury abroad. Most policies for travellers and expats include medical repatriation as a core benefit.
The transport mode is selected case-by-case: a private medical jet for ICU-level patients, a turboprop for shorter sectors, or a commercial medical escort with stretcher or seat-upright configuration when clinically safe.
