Also known as: Medical evacuation · MEDEVAC
Short for medical evacuation — a dedicated air mission to move a patient out of a location where adequate care is unavailable.
Medevac emphasises the urgency and mission-led nature of the flight. The term originated in military aviation and is now used across civilian air ambulance, insurance assistance and remote-industry operations.
A medevac mission is launched when a patient's clinical needs exceed local capacity, when specialist care is required at the destination, or when repatriation home is part of the treatment plan.
