Evaluation of how a patient can be transferred — independently, with assistance, by wheelchair, or by stretcher only.
Mobility status determines the transport mode, escort requirements and airport ground handling. It is captured early in case intake and shared with the airline, ground ambulance and receiving facility.
Categories typically include: WCHR (assistance to/from aircraft), WCHS (assistance up steps), WCHC (carried to seat), stretcher only.
