Also known as: Aeromedical evacuation · Air medical transport
The movement of a patient by air with a dedicated medical crew and equipment, from one care facility to another.
Aeromedical transfer is the umbrella term for any patient movement by air where clinical care continues throughout the flight. It covers air ambulance jets, medical helicopters, turboprop air ambulances and commercial medical escorts.
Every aeromedical transfer is built around three elements: a fit-to-fly clinical assessment, an aircraft and crew matched to the patient's condition, and a coordinated bed-to-bed handover at both ends.
